The Motorcycle Art

                         of Linus Coraggio

The Motorcycle Art of Linus Coraggio is a film about an artist with an obsessive need to create Motorcycle Art. Linus Coraggio has created close to 100 Motorcycle sculptures of metal and other materials since 1986. An outsider artist who works in many mediums and at many scales, he was a founder of the Rivington School of Art in the East Village in the early 1980s and the architect behind the Gas Station, a seminal art installation/community/concept that was ultimately demolished amid a wave of gentrification in 1996. He pushes on, and this talent for survival and creation is revealed in the series of choppers he has spent over thirty years creating. The Motorcycle Art of Linus Coraggio includes a sequence from 2009 of Coraggio working in his Bushwick studio and chronicles years in the life of the artist as he explores the rich and classical tradition of how his Motorcycle Art fits into the dreamscape of American consciousness.

The film screened at a number of festivals both here and abroad, including the French Riviera Motorcycle Film Festival in Nice, France.

This is a world online premiere.

The Art of Linus Coraggio -

                                    3D Graffiti

Linus is known for his fantastical furniture, visionary abstract representational sculpture, painting, imaginative outstillations, and woodcut prints.

The Art of Linus Coraggio - 3D Graffiti is a film is about a genre Coraggio pioneered in 1982 called 3D Graffiti - small metal sculptures, some with mixed media and text, attached clandestinely to no-parking sign posts in New York City and in other cities around the United States.

                               - In the East Village

We shot most of this film in the summer of 2015 and I finished it, like two of the others, during the Quarantine of 2020.

Traveling through the East Village with Linus and his friend Kelly was like a trip through time, and is just a small glimpse into the expansive art that Coraggio still continues to make.

The next time you go for a stroll in the East Village keep your eyes open, you won't have to look very far to see something that Linus has created.

This is a world premiere.

30 minutes duration.

The Art of Linus Coraggio:

Bench and Treeguard Art

This is the fifth film I have made with and about Linus Coraggio and his art since we met at a screening of one of my films in 2008.

The Art of Linus Coraggio: Bench and Treeguard Art is the first of our films I have released for free on my classic Youtube channel and we hope you enjoy it. It was a lot of work for both of us.

Final Version, February 18, 2021

Shot in 4K and mixed in Stereo.

The Art of Linus Coraggio - Studios Bushwick and Ellenville

"It’s hard to find the right kind of studio for a metal sculptor. If not near impossible - in Manhattan these days.

I wouldn’t be out in Bushwick… One of the landlords who owns it happened to be a metal sculptor at one point back in the day…

He sort of tolerates me in a surly way out there..."

...Excerpt from the film.

This film started with a trip I took with Linus to his then studio in Bushwick, New York in the fall of 2009.  Six years later, after the closing of that studio it made sense to travel north to Ellenville, New York to document how he was making art in the outdoor space on a cold winter day. An artist needs his/her studio and this film is about that reality....

This is a world premiere.
